Non-swimmers are taught swimming during navy basic training and all navy personnel are required to pass the prescribed swimming test before they pass out from training academy/school.

Since swimming is an essential requirement for serving on navy ships at sea – those who do not qualify the swimming test are held back/relegated in the training academy till such time they pass the swimming test.
